I spent the larger part of my Nursing Career caring for patients, including working as a volunteer at St. Jude’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN for Children with Cancer, and at St. Francis Hospital for terminally ill patients with Cancer as an RN, and at Emory University, Winship Cancer Research and Atlanta VA hospital. Thank you for your gift of your book When Angels Fly. 🙂 Karen Dowdall, PhD, MSN, BSN, RN

You are welcome. You’ve had tremendous success with your career. I applaud you for such success! I imagine you will relate in many ways from the parents at St. Jude. My book is being edited for correct capitalization’s, etc. such as medicines, and I can send you a different version when complete or you can just keep the one you have. Thank you for letting me know of your areas in nursing.

Hi, it is not about success at all, it is about caring and nurses care very much. Sorry if I gave that impression. Karen

I know that, for I am a caring nurse as well. I meant that you have had an awesome career in all the various settings you wrote about. During my own career, I have witnessed three types of nurses. First is the nurse who is concerned only about the bottom line, the dollar line, then the purely clinical nurse doing everything by the book with no emotion shown whatsoever. Lastly, the nurse who takes the time to shed a tear with family over a loved one who passed, especially one for a long term patient of eight months stay in hospital. Ideally, I like to see a nurse who watches the bottom line, does most things by the book yet understands when things are must be done different to accomplish the same goal, and be extremely caring. I think both you and I are in that third group. Mary

Mary, I definitely agree. Thank you for your comment. Sometimes the written word doesn’t express the feeling behind the words. Karen 🙂

Nice to meet you two! I’m a RN as well. I have a PhD in Nursing and have predominately worked PICU or teaching students. I have recently turned my focus to writing, which is a HARD but wonderful passion to pursue.

I have some empathic ability. I would fall under your heroic version and I’m used all the time. I just know things. Can’t explain it. I just simply know things. Then some people use my emotions to their benefit.
