2017 WRITERS’ CONFERENCE & BOOK EXPO #RRBC

Linda Mims's avatarThe Long and Short Stories of Life

Hi Guys!

You’ve heard me talk about Rave Reviews Book Club (#RRBC) before. It’s the book club where members truly support each other and where all you have to do to remain a member is read four member books each year. It’s the book club that’s like a family, though very few of us have ever actually seen each other.

Well, this October, Rave Reviews will hold our 2nd Annual Writer’s Conference and Book Expo! If you’re a Rave Reviews Book Club member, you can exhibit your book(s) to other members, their followers, and readers-at-large for an extremely reasonable fee (when you look at all the other fees that are out there). You still have time to become a member.

In addition to a booth for displaying your book(s), you can hawk your skills in our vendor’s fair, and/or sign up for sizzling writing and marketing workshops while you’re at…

Literary Agents: Look Before You Leap!

Writing your first novel-Some things you should know's avatarWriting your first novel-Things you should know

Get-The-Inside-Scoop-On-A-Literary-Agent-FEATUREDI’ve spent the last few days finalizing the list of agents I have chosen to submit my work to. If you are looking for an agent, I would recommend checking out the Association of Author’s Representatives(AAR). It’s a free database on line that provides a list of literary agents, the genres they represent, and if they are open for submission.

Once you’ve identified agents you would like to pursue, the work begins. I had a list of 12 agents that met my criteria. Well I didn’t want to send my work out to all 12 at one time, so I began the process of elimination.

Remember you are interviewing the agents and determining if they are a fit for your work, just as they are reviewing you work to determine if you are a fit for them. Don’t waste your time, or the agents, by sending them work in a genre they…

Rosco the Rascal at the St. Patrick’s Day Parade

Rosco the Rascal at the St. Patrick’s Day Parade by Shana Gorian

I finished reading this book three days ago and my review follows Gorian’s book blurb found on Amazon.

“This time it’s not Rosco who’s been making mischief – it’s the leprechauns! Rosco and Sparks are marching in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade accompanied by Rosco’s owners, brother and sister, James and Mandy. But Mandy thinks the leprechauns have jinxed her with bad luck, so when Sparks goes missing, what will it take for Rosco and the kids to find him? And will Mandy be able to restore her good luck, or will the leprechauns ruin her St. Patrick’s Day? Find out in this heartwarming, family adventure, complete with charming illustrations within the chapters. It’s the latest in the Rosco the Rascal series and the perfect addition to your child’s March reading list.”

I found Rosco to be an engaging character right from the start! Rosco the Rascal at the St. Patrick’s Day Parade had me hooked by the gorgeous cover art, and then by the magical story of the St Patrick Day Parade. Whether Irish or not, leprechauns are wonderful for children of all ages to read about. Old Irish folklore is harder for younger children to understand, but this allows for older children, parents, etcetera to get involved with their child and reading with them. Will Sparks be found? Can one be jinxed by a leprechaun? I highly recommend this fantastic children’s book and must rate this book as five stars!

The church with the castle

Sue Vincent's avatarSue Vincent's Daily Echo

After leaving Somerton church. we felt obliged to stop for a drink and absorb what we had seen. Some of the symbolism will be being mulled over for some time. but on a hot summer’s day, there is no better place than the garden of an old coaching inn for processing those initial thoughts. I just happened to know of one…the Jersey at Stoney Middleton which sits on the edge of the Middleton estate of the Jersey family. Just inside the gates, there is a church and a castle.

All Saints, Middleton Stoney

The castle is now no more than a mound and earthworks. If you didn’t know, you would think it no more than a knoll in the field, but  we have been playing with these earthen castles for quite some time. I had seen it on a previous visit and looked it up, finding it to be listed…

The Cabin Jesus Built

amlewis2017

The Cabin Jesus Built by A. M. Lewis

I just finished reading this book and my review follows the authors book blurb found on Amazon.

The Cabin Jesus Built is a work of Christian Fiction set in Lapland. It follows four families from very different backgrounds as they travel to Santa’s Village for the holidays. A bus accident on the way to the village tests their faith and their strength as they struggle to stay alive in the cold Arctic wilderness.”

The Cabin Jesus Built is truly inspirational and with a multitude of different characters coming together in a snow storm after their bus wrecked. The many messages are clear and one must believe and has faith. For the above I rate this book as five stars. Heads Up: If you read this book from a cell phone like I did, please know that some areas look like they need editing and that isn’t necessarily true.
