About the Crooked Creek Series:

“MK McClintock knows what readers want.” ~ Readers’ Favorite

Set in post-Civil War Montana Territory, in the small town of Crooked Creek, it all started with Emma. Her story was written for a contest, but I soon realized there were more women whose tales needed to be written. The war is over between the North and the South, but the battles at home are just beginning. If you love stories of bravery and courage with unforgettable women and the men they love, you’ll enjoy the Crooked Creek series.

What she finds instead is a world of underground Weathermen, Black Power revolutionaries, snitches and shoot-first police.

Thump! Thump! #PictureBook

Book Link

From Amazon:

“Thump! Thump!” is a delightful concept book that guides children through an auditory adventure with our inquisitive little protagonist as she tries to fall asleep. The mysterious sounds resonating through the bustling building of flats – the thumps, clinks, and strange rumbles – create a cacophony of noise for her wee ears.

Through the vibrant illustrations, children easily identify and understand that the initially frightening sounds are simply the diverse elements of their everyday environment. This book gently conveys the idea that even the most ordinary sounds can transform into a beautifully comforting symphony, soothing enough to lull one to sleep.

“Thump! Thump!” is a heartwarming and fun prose that encourages curiosity, empathy, and a sense of connection with the world around us.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet story

I had the honor of being the first reader to review this book! I found this picture book to be a really sweet story for both urban and rural children. The setting is urban and the book comes to life with the sights and sounds of city life. Urban kids learn in a fun way about city life, and city kids will think twice about the sounds and what they see as sometimes kids don’t recognize the happy parts to some of what happens in the city.

The Mazzard Tree

Book Link

From Amazon:

1880 North Devon, England
Annie Carter is a farm labourer’s daughter and life is a continual struggle for survival. When her father dies of consumption, her mother, Sabina, is left with seven hungry mouths to feed and another child on the way. To save them from the workhouse or starvation, Annie steals vegetables from the Manor House garden, risking jail or transportation. Unknown to her, she is watched by Robert, the wealthy heir to the Hartford Estate, but far from turning her in, he befriends her.

Despite their different social backgrounds, Annie and Robert develop feelings they know can have no future. Harry Rudd, the village blacksmith, has long admired Annie, and when he proposes, her mother urges her to accept. She reminds Annie, that as a kitchen-maid, she will never be allowed to marry Robert. Harry is a good man and Annie is fond of him. Her head knows what she should do, but will her heart listen?

Set against the harsh background of the rough, class-divided society of Victorian England, this heart-warming and captivating novel portrays a young woman who uses her determination and willpower to defy the circumstances of her birth in her search for happiness.

My Review:

I found this to be an interesting read. Historically, this novel is spot on for the time and place. The class or caste system well in place. Times were hard, and for the poor, barely enough food. Work hours are long, but life wasn’t all bad. Marriages happen, babies are born and life goes. A rural England historical romance. I feel that there is more telling than showing, and not as much dialogue as in other books.

Taylor’s unexpected encounter with a charismatic stranger over the same book leaves them at odds, setting the stage for this fun, bookish tale.

This is a very short story about love, romance, and deep introspection into oneself. The soul of a bookworm is the only one to understand the soul of another bookworm. That connection is irrepressible.

My Review:

This book is amazing with a collection of short vignettes. One is but one paragraph, and others are many pages. They all speak about life and the eccentricities of some characters. Real life has the same types of characters and more ‘normal’ types as well. Normal in the sense of your own perception of normal. From a wallflower to darker themes and HIV to floating above one’s body, you will want to read each story and see how they turn out.

A Haiku Perspective 2015

Book Link

From Amazon:

Welcome to my haiku perspective on life. It is easy to enjoy this book because haiku flows, which means it can be experienced effortlessly. Perhaps reading this book will open up some creative energy within you and if so, you will share your haiku as well. Those who live to express themselves with words, craft a world using the alphabet, are giving life to imagination and thought.

My Review:

I often read poetry books after reading four or five novels. I find this practice to be soothing to my soul. This book is soothing, the words perfect, the flow just right. Whether the Haiku is about a man holding his newborn daughter, or the charge of love in a 17 syllable stanza, each has its own uniqueness and wonder. Regardless, reading Haiku is rewarding and this book is exceptional. Five shiny gold stars.
