Sexual Harassment at A Workplace

Kally's avatarMiddleMe

I don’t know if it is common in your country but sexual harassment is extremely common in Asia, without the victims realizing that they are in danger of harassment. What you don’t know can’t hurt you, right? Wrong! It is wrong to ignore and avoid talking about sexual harassment in a workplace like many Asian companies do. Nobody likes to address it and if a victim approached their HR, usually it is either brush off as fiction or handled grotesquely and swept under the carpet.

A recent incident sparks my interest in this topic. A friend of mine was sexually harassed by a co-worker of hers and couldn’t approach anyone in the company for help. In the end, she broke down mentally and had to see a doctor before making a difficult ultimatum to resign from a job she loved. This isn’t fair, I know. Sexual harassment can happen to…

How is my phone changing me?

FrauM's avatarBECOMING DEUTSCH

Or, how does your phone change you, too?

Yeah, it is not just us that’s capable of controlling our phones. In many ways, it seems to be the other way around. When I tried asking Google of ways my phone is changing me, I found myself looking at countless results, mostly of religious connection. It was not bad at all, but I wanted to see something that specifically answers my questions.

And since, I cannot find the exact thing I was looking for, I decided to put together all the things I have realized so far as to the query, “How is my phone changing me”?

Have you ever forgotten your phone at home and felt perfectly uncomfortable the whole day at work? I did it again the other day, and I was quite restless. I was shocked to  find out this feeling is now referred to as NMP or

high spirit 1

Do you know that if you are active, rest well, set yourself little goals daily , you are giving yourself extra years and well-being ?

Our brain is a muscle like any other and if we don’t use it, it will seize up ! it will lose strength and agility and can create a serious  illness. However we still dont really think about looking after it, like we would the heart, lungs liver etc., Brain health is something we should really be getting into before it is too late, a healthy brain will give us a good memory and quick reaction to go into action., it also gives us happiness and well-being.

It is known that if we give this attention and care for our brain as we should, we extend our life not only in years but also in health and can help prevent a possible stroke or Alzheimer’s…

Need to brush up your HTML?

Phillip T Stephens's avatarWind Eggs

Here’s a handy cheat sheet

Why would you need to know HTML 5, you might ask? I’m a writer. Others, like me, know how useful HTML and CSS are to customizing our WordPress templates or working around the many WordPress limitations. I’m always switching to the text window to enter code. My banner at the bottom of this page was added using code.

MTML Coding is a little less difficult with a handy cheat sheet. (Image courtesy of Inspirationfeed.)

I stumbled across this handy HTML5 cheat sheet and thought I’d share it. I was surprised at the number of useful tags I hadn’t picked up on yet. Even if you don’t use HTML yet, hang on to the bookmark. You never know when you’ll need it.

Weekend Wrinkle: Support a Copy Editor

AIC Communication Services's avatarWriting-Insight-Success

Copy editors, the unsung heroes of the writing world, are finally getting recognition. Unfortunately, it is because they face losing their jobs.

Hundreds of the New York Times employees walked out June 29 to protest the elimination of  the Times’ stand-alone copy desk where about 100 copy editors toil away to make the paper readable and accurate. Those folks have been “invited” to apply for 50 copy editing positions that will be available. (For an in depth look, see the Washington Post’s “Why hundreds of New York Times employees staged a walkout.” )

For years I have watched as copy editing positions were eliminated in favor of “streamlining” communication. The result has always been mistakes, confusion, and inaccuracy flooding through (not to mention hideously bad grammar and usage).

Modern communication, especially news, is focused on speed. The faster you can get the information out, the better. Copy editing slows things…
