Dear Readers,

From what I have been told spinal cord injuries seem to happen most often due to car crashes, falls or violence. Injuries to the spinal cord can also happen from disease or degeneration.

Today I am talking with the creator of the Facebook group, Spinal Cord Injury Recovery – Ignite Your Inner Health Warrior.

Please welcome Kay

Hi. I am an entrepreneur and business owner, a coach and change maker, a teacher, a former nurse (although once a nurse always a nurse!) and a podcast host! Over the course of my career (I’m 55 years young) I have had the privilege of working in two large regional hospitals in the Midwest where I encountered many an injured person in the ICU, a Fortune 100 global medical device company in areas associated with injury, a global neuroscience based coaching and consulting firm, as well as my own entrepreneurial ventures…

Your Creativity & Art Will Not Go Away If You Take A Little Break

S.Z. Estavillo's avatarWriting With Hope

Creative souls desperately yearn to create as often as possible. We are sensitive and often in touch with more emotions that others choose to bury. Some creative people are naturally prone to a little melancholy, as I touched upon in a previous post Pursing The Art: Depression & Creative Minds.

One of the biggest hurdles I find is that any free time that I have, I feel as if I should be creating something. I need to be writing, taking photos, videos, updating a blog, reading other bloggers and commenting. I have to be creating comments or reflecting on an edit I need to for a manuscript revision. No one places this pressure on me but me.

The drive to write is as natural as needing food to sustain my body. I bet some of you writers and artist can understand that hunger. If we’re not…

Forward into a Distant Time and Place

Friday, July 19, 2002 Kudos

~ sent to me from Denny Lancaster aka The Faerie Keeper

Forward into a distant time and place,
a winged messenger was sent post haste;
A gift for ~Capt Dream Fairy~ whose poems excel,
and the words therein which cast a spell.

One of her recent poems was reflective,
so our gift to her must be quite selective;
Perhaps a line or two from Kublai Khan,
or an ancient manuscript of the ancient lexicon.

Neither of these gifts will do something new,
a treasure from the heart and claimed by few;
The promise of the Faerie Mother for continued light,
and protection throughout the darkness of night?

Perhaps the promise will do for a start,
and could be by this poem we have done our part;
But of her poetry we can be certain because true,
the gifts of writing and clarity are born only by a few.

Lies told by Small Presses

Steven Capps's avatarBard & Books

Like many of my posts, this stems from something I saw in an online writer’s group. Essentially, someone who has been traditionally published from a small press was putting down people who self-publish. Personally, I have my own problems with self-publishing that I discuss in my “Why I’ll Never Self-Publish” post, but that is besides the point. At this point, I’d like to formally begin my rant against small presses.

In my opinion, traditional publishing is best done through an agent and then with a professionally recognized publisher. Small presses, unless they are recongized by writing organizations like Codex or SFWA, often give little more than what someone can do through self-publishing but will suck away 40-60% of the author’s share of royalties and then use self-publishing tools (like Createspace) to produce the book. Small Presses get away with this by telling authors lies in order to get them to sign…

WordPress: Yell Into the Echoing Void

Charles Yallowitz's avatarLegends of Windemere

Darth Vader

First of all, I do how one beef with a WordPress change.  Where in the world is the Underline toggle?  I see Italics and Bold.  No sign of underlining, which is a fairly common practice.  I have to use Ctrl-U every time, which seems to go against the idea of making things easier and more user-friendly.

On to the real topic, which is . . . How is everyone doing out in Blog Land?

I ask because my traffic has been pretty bad.  Likes seem to flow in pretty easily, but not much in the way of comments.  I was thinking it was just me since I haven’t been reliable in my book releases, I’m running out of interesting topics, and I’m still having bouts with depression.  Yet, I do see people wondering the same thing, so maybe it’s an across the board issue.  Wordpress might be losing…
