Let’s Talk Writer Cred

Rachael Ritchey's avatarRachael Ritchey

If you’re like me, you appreciate authenticity and honesty. And with that in mind, we’re going to cover an interesting topic for writers, one that my friend Steven Capps has been kind enough to come as a guest and speak on.

Stick around and please consider sharing your thoughts in the comments!

Lying about Publishing, Awards, and Credentials

By: Steven Capps

Over the last few days I’ve noticed a few articles on fake credentials. The New York Times reported on an article written by a few high school, journalism students. It focused on how their principal fabricated their Master’s and PhD, and the students’ article resulted in the principal’s resignation, four days later.

pexels-photo-105472Another isn’t an article, but it deals with a someone I came across in the online writing community. The person is claiming to be a “Hugo nominated writer.” In case you do not know, the Hugo’s…

These are the 2 Types of Rough Drafts

by Samantha Fenton

Not every rough draft is created equal. There are different ways of mind when writing the rough draft. Depending on your style, maybe your draft has taken forever to write. You just want to get it as perfect as possible. Or maybe the rough draft is just a chance to get the ideas on the page and get it over with as quickly as possible. I have found it to be an either/or situation. Either you want the rough draft to be as perfect as possible, or you try to get it out of the way and focus on getting the general idea on the page.

World Book and Copyright Day — and a Gift For My Readers

Hi, everyone.  Today is World Book and Copyright Day, as designated by UNESCO.  The date is symbolic:  Shakespeare, Cervantes, and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega all died on April 23.  The stated purpose of the event is to pay world-wide tribute to books and authors, and to encourage everyone to discover the joys of reading.  The event was begun in 1995, as a way to pay respect to the “irreplaceable contributions of those, who have furthered the social and cultural progress of humanity.”

31432511In honor of the event, I am offering a 24-hour coupon to my readers.  Click on the link to get a free copy of His Beloved Infidel by using coupon code RG38E at check-out.  The coupon will expire on April 24, 2017.

Book blurb: Farukh and Catherine are colleagues at Paris’ World Language Institute. He is Persian; she is American. Can their newly-discovered love survive the…

Share Your Writing!

Hello to everyone! I want to offer an opportunity for all writers who follow this blog to share information on their books. It can be very difficult to generate publicity for our writing, so I thought this little effort might help.  All books may be mentioned, and there is no restriction on genre. This include poetry and non-fiction.

If this event is successful, I will do this about once a month.  To participate, simply give your name, your book, information about it, and where to purchase it in the comments section. Then please be willing to reblog and/or tweet this post. The more people that see it, the more publicity we can generate for everyone’s books.

I hope this idea is successful, and I hope many people share information on their books!
