Success at Barnes & Noble!

On August 23rd at the Bradley Fair Barnes and Noble in Wichita, Kansas, I had another successful SNOW: CURSED author signing. It was a pleasure to be at such a wonderful B&N book signing, with so many stellar authors there, along with making new connections with readers of all ages, genres, and interests. This is an event I will never forget and always cherish. The support of the individuals that attended blew me away. The thought that so many people are interested in my dreams and writing journey filled my heart with an indescribable joy. This signing motivated me in particular to give readers more of the SNOW SAGA, and other various novels that they have yet to experience. From each of the other writers, I learned something special. It was interesting to see how they all expressed themselves differently, yet in unique ways. Be on the lookout for upcoming author book signings from me, Willa R. Finnegan. Thanks again readers and authors for your amazing support! See you next time.

Snow can be found here: Snow

Not only was Willa at this book signing, but so was I, Mary L. Schmidt. I had four books for kids and it was a flurry of activity. Everyone was cordial, authors and buyers as well. I had the high honor of presenting Willa to a great friend of mine. She is a mom of four children, and she believes in literacy. Her children love to read. She bought all of my books, Willa’s and many other writers. Reading is so important and my friend has a heart of pure gold. She holds book reading groups in her home for kids! While I was introducing Willa, two members of Kansas Authors Club were at my table, and I wasn’t able to introduce Willa as by the time we were done taking photos with my friend and her children, they were gone. I’m sorry. Catch up next time?

Meet Marco Marek

Please welcome Marco Marek to my blog today. Great to have you on. Shall we get started?

Please introduce yourself to those reading this blog post.

Hello there, I’m Marco Marek, I’m a writer from Italy and I write most in English because the market is more wide and I don’t want to be restricted to just one country.

Has writing always been part of your life and when did you “know” that it was time to start writing your first book?

Well, I started in 2010, I always liked fantasy movies and books, like the Lord of Rings, Jules Verne, Harry Potter etc. I thought one day why I can write my own fantasy story? Then I wrote my first book Hyperearth.

How difficult was it writing your first book?

I think for me it was never been difficult writing, I have a story in mind then I develop it while I’m writing, I plan the plot sometimes so  it more easy to write.

Have you ever wanted to give up and what stopped you?

I don’t know, I think I never thought to give up, most the promotion and asking for a review it is stressful since you find lot of people lazy and take ages until they write a review, and sometimes they don’t leave it at all.

Who is the most supportive of you and your dream to be a writer?

Family and some relatives, friends, the dream is to see your book on cinema screen!

Anything specific you want to tell your readers?

To read without prejudice, some readers would like your book must be a masterpiece, and written like they want. Instead a reader should read and appreciate every story a writer has to say, then can express their thought.

What is the best advice given to you (book or otherwise), and by whom?

Read read read a lot  and learn then you can write… I think it was Stephen King

What is your target audience and what aspect of your writing do you feel targets that audience?

Young adult, hoping they enjoy the adventures that are on my books

Did the cover evolve the same way, or did you work with someone to make it come together for you?

First two books I created my self the cover, for the trilogy I hired a professional artist, that she created the cover like I wanted.

What are you working on now? Can we get a peek, an excerpt?

I ended a book just some months ago, It is a story of a woman, former singer star in decadence and a bit depressed who has won an holiday in Mexico, then she will  meet a man who had some issues than her plus amnesia, then they will be involved in various adventures…

Any last words before we wrap things up?

Hope to get more Fantasy readers, they are important for us indie authors, with they help we can grow more, so please leave a review, that’s our best reward.

(Author interview NOT edited.)

Wonder of Light

Book Link

From Amazon:

Wonder of Light is officially a Trilogy. The title Wonder of Light is book 1 in the series. It is recommended to read them in order, but each novel can be read as a standalone.

I was inspired by true events to write this book; however, the story line and characters are fictional. It is a young adult romance, set in high school. It is a high school bully/adversaries-to-lovers style romance. There are depictions of violence, nothing too graphic, and profanity has been censored due to the spiritual nature of the book.

Sarah

There’s just something about Evan Simes that keeps drawing me to him. Even though he’s the opposite of me in almost every way and avoids me at every turn. He mostly keeps to himself. Especially when I’m in his presence. I don’t know what makes him so angry or resistant to my efforts to break down his walls, but he seems to want nothing to do with me. Yet I can’t help continuing to try to get through.

Evan

Belton’s bible queen, Sarah Warner, thinks she can fool me with her fake graciousness. I see through the facade. She and her popular crew are vapid pretenders hiding behind their trust funds and holier-than-thou images while looking down on those of they think are beneath them. Well enough is enough. They’re all going to pay for their sins. It’s only a matter of time before my best friend Tyler and I get our revenge.

My Review:

This novel is totally heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. Older teenagers can relate to this novel as most characters are in their senior year of high school. Cheesy love stories? One or two. Abusive parental figures? Toss that into the mix. Serious illness? Fold that in gently with issues of being bullied and being saved by Jesus Christ is beautiful.

Finding Frankie

Book Link

From Amazon:

An outlaw’s vow for revenge, a widower’s need for justice, and a child’s unshakable faith in God’s forgiveness.

Outlaw Frankie McNeal is used to doing whatever it takes to survive, but she’s tired of robbing banks and dodging the law. She’s convinced there must be more to life. Determined to find a better way for herself and her youngest brother with the money she’s saved, she’s positive one more robbery will give them the fresh start they need. When they are shot and left for dead, she’s bent on revenge for her brother’s death. It makes little difference if the man she’s after is her father.

When Daniel Myers stumbles across the injured woman dressed as a man, he suspects she’s part of the gang that killed his wife. The last thing he wants to do is bring trouble home to his daughter. Torn between leaving the woman to the coyotes and the need for justice, he promises to get her well enough to turn over to the law. But Daniel is a man with his own secrets. He struggles to justify his beliefs and his own sense of forgiveness when faced with his growing attraction. Set against a backdrop of the Blue Ridge Mountains, they’ll learn there’s a thin line between revenge and redemption—especially when the path is paved with dark secrets.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brings a person to tears

Wow. Kidd has written a great story. Full of the old west, hard work, strong feelings, outlaws, bandits, horses, farming, doctoring, hopes, dreams, fears, laughter, love, and Jesus. Throughout this book, life is woven in a tight tapestry of everything you can feel, see, smell, taste, and loss, heavy on those who don’t die in the natural birth order. The love remains, above all, the love and faith in Jesus.

Broken Chances

Book Link

From Amazon:

A young wife. A much older husband. Is it only the age gap that threatens to ruin their marriage?

When Margo marries Michael, she believes that her life will change forever. And it really does, only not in the way a young girl from a small country in Northern Europe thought it would.

Latvia, a dreamy land with rich historical heritage and endless beaches stretching for miles, for Margo, is a gloomy place where she would have to struggle for years to have a decent life. All she knows is her hometown – a depressing place built for the needs of the factory workers – dull commuting to the capital Riga, and a bar in the Old Town where she works, always full of loud and often unceremonious tourists.

Skipping a chance to explore her home country and the opportunities it might offer, Margo accepts Michael’s proposal and moves to a dramatically picturesque island in England.

A small, tightly-knit community, where everyone knows everyone and where nothing ever happens, is not particularly welcoming to a newcomer. Unfamiliar with local traditions and quirks, Margo often finds herself in awkward situations. Still, with each walk she takes along the coastal path on the small island she now calls home, Margo falls deeper in love with the stunning landscapes of the Jurassic Coast in Dorset. Alas, with each day she spends with Michael, she realises more clearly that her marriage is falling apart.

Margo keeps asking herself why what she thought was a chance of a lifetime turned into a disaster. Will she find the answer? And will she love again after having been bitterly disappointed in marriage and relationships?

Set against the backdrop of breathtaking landscapes of the Jurassic Coast in Dorset, England, “Broken Chances” is a self-discovery journey with a dash of cosy mystery and clean romance.

P.S. Expect to be smitten by charming dogs and majestic horses.

My Review:

Margo is young and dreams of having a new life away from Latvia. She marries an older man twice her age, and they move to an idyllic coastal town on an island in Dorset, England. Love didn’t rule Margo’s heart and she comes to realize quickly that the man she married does not love her. He only desires her cooking per his specifications, dinner on the table at exact times, household cleaner, anything he can get her to do. Yet he shows hatred and dissatisfaction with her cooking. A man who doesn’t love her, an island town with women who take a long time to make friends with. But she does succeed. Yet her life is empty. She looks forward to the days when her husband is not at home and out working. Along comes Finley, a young and handsome man who takes a shine on Margo. Margo’s husband becomes more abusive. Margo needs to get out of this marriage. Can she? Will Margo get out and away from her abusive husband? Will she ever find her own happily ever after? And what of her mother? Is she too old to marry again? Will anyone in Dorset have the dreams they dream of? This novel has a great plot with numerous subplots.

The Skipper’s Child

Book Link

From Amazon:

For Arie Kornet, School holidays on his family’s barge, the Rival, are more than tedious. His father is a Dutch commercial skipper, and all they do is travel from one place to another on the European waterways, delivering and taking on goods. His deaf mother and his two sisters accept the lifestyle, but Arie is intensely frustrated with it all – especially as it is December and Christmas is coming. It seems there is nothing for him to do on board, and no escape. That is, until an unexpected stowaway, a frightening encounter with Russian secret agents and an alarming international plot bring him far more excitement than he has ever bargained for. Suddenly, his own life, and those of his entire beloved family, are in danger. Forced in to a new and adult role, Arie is faced with difficult decisions to make, and even more difficult actions to take.

The Skipper’s Child is an exciting story of adventure and suspense set in the evocative world of the commercial waterways during the coldest winter of the Cold War.

My Review:

Living life on a barge is not an easy life, but it is rewarding. Everyone must do their part, and the work was hard. Even more when one travels with a load of wool or whatever they carried during war time. On the plus side, families become closer, and friendships with other skippers and their families are treasured. One gets to see so many countries and architecture, scenes most have never seen or imagined. For Arie, he longed for a life away from the hard work of the barge he lived on with his two sisters and his parents. Along comes Dimitri, and things get dicey. What does Arie decide to do after the trials of one December during time of war? I won’t give away the story nor the ending.

Genuine Deceit

Book Link

From Amazon:

When a young woman finds herself unknowingly accountable for the past sins of her family, she must unravel their secrets and lies to stay alive.

When her grandmother is brutally murdered in her own home, Reagan Asher leaves her corporate job and rushes to her sleepy hometown in Ohio. She has barely entered the house before a second break-in attempt is made, prompting police to believe it’s not just a random burglary. Reagan’s lifelong friend Mattie asks Aiden Rannell, her brother-in-law and an ex-Navy Seal, to lend support and protection to Reagan as she navigates the investigation.

Aiden suggests a ring that Reagan’s grandmother owned may be more valuable than anyone realizes. Considering her frugal life growing up, Reagan dismisses the idea, showing Aiden an old pink box filled with similar colorful, ornate costume jewelry she and her friends played with as children. When they find a decades-sealed container with shocking contents supporting Aiden’s concerns, Reagan begs him to help her find the origin and if it is related to her Nana’s death.

Finding clues to solve a decades old mystery proves challenging as the threats to Reagan’s life escalate. Could the discovery of a water-stained, half-torn photo found in her grandmother’s safe deposit box be significant? Her mother’s suicide? Her father’s abandonment? Unanswered questions send Reagan and Aiden across the country in search of answers, with danger never far behind. With each new revelation of deception and lies, Reagan begins to doubt everything she ever knew about her life.

My Review:

Wow. York has written a book without smooth sailing. This book grabs your attention, then takes you a ride like a roller-coaster with unpredictable twists and turns. Just when you think you have it figured out, you find out you don’t. The emotions are palpable, the love and loss equally palpable. The lies are numerous and, frankly, heartwrenching. Well done.

  • I found this story to be a unique paranormal read with a loving couple who became engaged. Did they marry? I leave that for the next readers. The Hope Diamond is front and center throughout this book in many different ways. Ethereal ghosts are almost in every home and abode. Mostly kind, some a bit bitter, and other men who try to kill the main male protagonist. A lot happens in the span of a 2- 3 hour drive. That final clue needed by those who wished to claim it, whether entitled to claim it or not. Danger lurks everywhere, even on the high seas. This book is descriptive, some even repetitions of phrases. I would have preferred more dialogue in bringing the story to life, but that is my preference

Hunted Book One

From Amazon:

Secrets can kill you…

For twenty-five years, Alice Quinn, believed she was human. That was until a fire demon killed her mother, and her father walked back into her life. As a vampire, being dead is not an acceptable reason for staying out of Alice’s life.

Forced to accept her heritage and the dormant power she possesses as half-vampire and witch, Alice becomes submerged into a world of danger, where deadly forces threaten to strip away her humanity.

Stuck with a newfound family that doesn’t understand her. A ghost who doesn’t want to be dead, and a grumpy gnome, sent by her grandfather from Faerieland, to spy on her, life is more than challenging.

Alpha werewolf, Ethan Jefferies, has a choice, bring Alice back from the Ghost Plane or allow her to die. Ethan’s wolf has its own agenda, claiming Alice, he binds them together. But Alice wants more—she wants the man.

My Review:

This was a unique read for me and this book is perfect for those who like reading otherworldly type of book. The pace is frenetic pace. Alice thought she was normal as a human, then it is thrust upon her that she is a combination of several things including vampire and witch. Without training and not knowing her powers, life turns deadly for those who are of mixed blood such as Alice. This is otherworldly racism. There are those set out to kill all mixed blood leaving a clean lineage of each being. Danger is everywhere. Alice is very angry when her true self comes out. She must learn how and when to use powers she possesses. Love finds her and Alice grows into becoming the one she was meant to be.
