On this Day I Complete my Thirty-Sixth Year

‘Tis time this heart should be unmoved,
Since others it hath ceased to move:
Yet though I cannot be beloved,
Still let me love!

My days are in the yellow leaf;
The flowers and fruits of Love are gone;
The worm, the canker, and the grief
Are mine alone!

How do I deal with spam comments on my blog 1: Why do people spam my blog and why should I stop them?

Liz Dexter's avatarLibroEditing proofreading, editing, transcription, localisation

After writing about keeping people engaged with our blogs last week, I started thinking about those people we DON’T want to engage with – spammers. In the first part of this series I’ll talk about why people might spam comment on a blog and why we shouldn’t allow them to. I’ll move on to discuss how to identify a spam comment, and then how to deal with them.

What is a spam comment on a blog?

A spam comment is a comment that isn’t relevant to the blog post it’s commenting on and is placed simply to encourage people to click through to the website the spammer is promoting. At its “best”, this is used to promote a website, usually by a third party, but at worst, it could link to a dodgy site that could contain malware or viruses.

Why do people submit spam comments to blogs?

Consider the Plight of the Frown

Kudos…..finding you at TSF with your cheers in my early
morning wake up is like finding water when we thirst, food
when we hunger and light when there is darkness…so a cheer for your
cheering.

Consider the Plight of the Frown by Denny Lancaster

Consider the plight of the frown,
where in TSF is one rarely found;
The uplifted frown is a wide grin,
and with cheering it does begin.

The cheer is more than a mere word,
as a Spirit Faerie this you have heard;
And as you begin your dusting with glee,
nary a sour note or dusting you will see.

There is a reason for this of course,
for at work in our midst is a force;
Whose power leads us all with her hand,
Spirit Faeries are members of a proud band

You Are Beautiful

Yamini's avatarLive Your Dreams 24/7

Hey you girl, yes you over there
Reading through your specs as they settle on your nose
And you too
Reading as your thoughts race back to gym
Then that girl over there
Reading while she covers her scars up with a scarf
You too my girl
Reading with her hat on, covering her balding top

Didn’t they tell you? How can they not?
Never mind, I will. Today and tomorrow, everyday
You are beautiful, just amazing
Don’t you ever doubt your beauty, it radiates from within
You need them? You need them not!
People who judge you from your cover don’t deserve to see the inner pages
Withdraw from them all for we are here
Loving you for the person you are, the soul that resides within
See that beauty you have
Embrace what you’ve got, face that mirror and tell it you are beautiful!

Commas and how to use them (Part 1)

Harmony Kent's avatarStory Empire

Hello SErs! Harmony here 🙂 I hope this finds you all well. Today, I’d like to take a look at commas. For such a small punctuation mark, it has a big impact on how well or not our sentences read. Though we use commas a lot of the time, few of us understand them fully.

What is a comma? What does it do?

According to the Oxford English Dictionary: ‘A comma marks a slight break between different parts of a sentence. Used properly, commas make the meaning of sentences clear by grouping and separating words, phrases, and clauses.’

The different types of comma: Listing (Standard or Oxford), Introductory, Joining, Gapping, Bracketing, and other comma uses.

One thing that can make commas so confusing is that sometimes you have options, especially with the Listing and Gapping commas.

Because there is a lot to cover on this topic, I have split it…

Heat Exhaustion

Heat Exhaustion ~ be aware ~ this happened to me Friday evening at the Ellsworth County Cancer Fund Event ~ Sudden ~ Without Warning!

Heat exhaustion occurs when your body overheats in response to external factors, like high temperature. Heat exhaustion can happen to anyone. It’s common in athletes, particularly those who exercise outdoors during extreme summer weather. It can also occur if you’re in a hot car or other indoor area that isn’t air-conditioned. Babies, small children, and older adults are more susceptible.

The symptoms of heat exhaustion can come on suddenly without warning, or they may creep up on you gradually. You may have one or several symptoms, including:

1. a drop in blood pressure when exerting yourself, such as moving from a sitting to a standing position, which can make you feel dizzy or lightheaded

2. dizziness

3. nausea

4. feeling faint or having the sense that you are going to black out ~ I thank God that Ethan Finke was there and noticed!

5. sweating profusely from many areas of the body moist, cool, or cold skin, coupled with goose bumps, even in extreme heat ~ I could not stop sweating

6. a pulse rate that becomes weak and rapid

7. headache

8. muscle cramping

If you have symptoms:

1. drink fluids, especially those with electrolytes

2. get to a cool place ~ our son took me home to air conditioning

3. have fans blowing cool air onto your body ~ even though our son was getting cold, I was still sweating and this continued for about an hour ~ until I was strong enough to get into a cool shower for an extended period of time

4. Seek medical attention if you don’t get relief.
