No Cure for Love #romance

From Amazon: A dangerously cavalier hero unwilling to follow doctor’s orders. A dedicated, compassionate heroine determined to heal. Jamie Calderone is a charming and carefree bachelor who lives life with reckless abandon. His trip to the hospital for yet another sports-related injury finds him back under the care of Dr. Rylee Kavanaugh. Jamie’s fallen fast and hard for the gorgeous Irish doc and goes to great lengths to prove it to her. Rylee is a gifted, caring physician who’s chosen her career over her personal life. She’s sworn off romance because of her abysmal relationship history and her crippling abandonment issues, but she’s intrigued by the many charms of this kind, handsome man. But when the doctor discovers her patient is deliberately ignoring warning signs his body is sending him, putting his life—and her heart—in danger, she refuses to stick around to watch him self-destruct, even if it means she’ll be alone forever. Do they have the remedy for each other’s pain? And will they learn the hard way there is no cure for love? No Cure for Love, Book Five in the Calderone Family Romance Series, is a captivating story of sorrow and tears, soul-searching and self-discovery, laughter and love.

My Review: This is the fourth book in this series, and the forth book I’ve read by this author. Filled with more than one love story, the main love story is different than the three prior books. It’s fun to read the lively banter of the Calderone family. Five star romance. TRIGGER ALERT: If you have lost a loved one to cancer or its treatment, and especially a child, like I did, then be warned. Unfortunately, I read that part on my youngest son’s birthday celebrated in heaven. Losing my son at age five, and then this part triggered me. It’s a wonderful book, BUT beware of trigger aspect. That part has me in tears at this very moment.

Secrets of Rosenli Manor

(Mysteries of the Modern Ladies’ Society, Book 1)

By Heidi Eljarbo

(Blurb)

Betrayal and trust go hand in hand in the first book of Heidi Eljarbo’s new turn-of-the-century series.

It’s 1898, and Lilly has spent most of her life motherless and living with a father who never looks for a silver lining. When her great-aunt Agatha passes, Lilly’s existence takes a drastic turn. She packs her few belongings and moves into the old lady’s magnificent estate, Rosenli Manor.

In the days that follow, Lilly tries to understand who Agatha really was, and hidden secrets slowly rise to the surface. Her great-aunt’s glamorous legacy is not quite what Lilly had imagined. She must trust in newly forged friendships, and to her surprise, she discovers what it means to truly fall in love. But not everyone is happy about the new mistress of Rosenli.

Intrigue, mystery, and a touch of romance in the Norwegian countryside fill the pages of Secrets of Rosenli Manor.

Excerpt 4:

ROSENLI MANOR SAT bathed in a pleasant glow when Lilly arrived early the following day. Rays of sunshine sprayed the few snowy spots left on the ground, and two sparrows flittered between the bare branches of birches and hazelnut trees.

She’d only attended two funerals. The first one was for her beloved mother, then Uncle Alfred had passed a few years later.

A whiff of freshly baked goods met her as she opened the main door and stepped across the threshold. Maids were buzzing around an immensely long table set up in the middle of the grand entry hall, smoothing the linen tablecloth, and hurrying to and from the kitchen carrying trays and baskets of cakes and sweet rolls.

Gertrude came toward her. “Oh, there you are, love. The reception is being prepared according to Agatha’s wishes. I hope you are pleased.”

“It looks wonderful. Are you expecting a large crowd?”

“The townsfolk. Your great-aunt was much loved.”

“I’m glad they can come.”

“You know, Agatha always held an open hand for people in need and shared what she had. Today, we’ll celebrate that goodness by inviting people inside the manor for a bite to eat. They’ll sing hymns, enjoy the food, and speak kind words about Agatha before they follow the wagon with her casket to the church cemetery.”

“I’ve never heard of such devotedness before, only with celebrities or perhaps royalty.”

“One may think Agatha was just an ordinary woman, but there was nothing common about her. What she taught me through her example is that anyone can do extraordinary things with their life. One can choose to be good, charitable, or kind…even when others may not deserve to be treated well. There’s always a choice.” She wiped her hands on her apron and rearranged a couple of the cake trays. “There. That’s better.” Touching Lilly’s arm, she said, “As you learn more about her and become acquainted with her life, you’ll understand what I mean.”

“But—”

“Patience, dear. All in good time.” She gave Lilly a quick hug. “I’m so pleased you are here.” Her skirt swooshed as she rushed back down the hall toward the kitchen.

John came carrying a large tray. Steam rose from the cups, and the aroma of mulled blackcurrant toddy reached Lilly.

“Mornin’, Lilly,” he said. “Can I do anything for you?”

“I’d like to help.”

“Go to the kitchen and ask what you can do. We’ll invite people into the grand hall as soon as we have everything on the table.”

Lilly made her way to the scullery, moving out of the way as two maids hurried by.

“What can I do?” she asked Gertrude.

“Every plate and basket on that table needs to go out. We’re almost ready now.”

Lilly picked up a serving plate with lefse and carried it into the hallway. The softened potato flatbread rolled up with butter, sugar, and cinnamon was one of her favorite treats. She hurried back a few more times until the long table was packed full of delicacies. Cakes and open-faced sandwiches, buns and sweet rolls, dried apples, and cold and warm drinks filled every available space.

Gertrude gave John a nod, and he turned to Lilly.

“Shall we?” he asked.

Lilly smiled, not knowing what to expect. “Yes, John. Please invite the neighbors in.”

John flung open the double doors, and young and old dressed in what seemed like their finest clothes streamed inside. At first, they stood to the side, waiting and peeking shyly at the table and taking in the beauty of the hallway with its portraits on one wall and lovely mirrors on the other. A rope hung at the bottom of the staircase to prevent people from entering the private rooms upstairs.

Children stared at the delicacies then pulled at their mothers’ skirts, looking up with pleading eyes.

“Go ahead,” Gertrude said, smiling at the youngsters.

With their mothers in tow, the children hurried to the table. Chairs were set out along both sidewalls, and Lilly grabbed a basket and offered sweet raisin rolls to older people who’d found a seat. Menfolk stood talking, mugs of warm toddy in one hand and a sandwich or two in the other.

Gertrude handed Lilly a mug. “One of Agatha’s favorite drinks when the weather cooled off. She always asked for a cup when returning from walks outside.”

The juice had the same rich deep-red color as the pelargonium Lilly remembered hanging from the balcony planters on the backside of the manor.

“Thank you, Gertrude.”

Lilly carefully blew on the hot juice then took a sip. The flavor was delicious, like an aromatic blend of berries, spices, and everything sweet.

The Cloak #inspirational @wandalu

From Amazon: It is said, that on the day Jesus died, the soldiers gambled at the foot of the cross for all of his personal effects. Among those items, was his cloak… In John 19:24, it is written…”Let’s not tear it,” they said to one another, “Let’s decide by lot who will get it.” This happened that the scripture (in Psalm 22) might be fulfilled that said, “They divided my clothes among them and cast lots for my garment.” So, this is what the soldiers did that day. Have you ever wondered what happened to his cloak? Or to the soldier who won it? How did it feel to wear the cloak of Jesus Christ and what sort of thoughts might he have about it? Or about Jesus? Come along on this fictional tale and discover a short story that is as thought-provoking as it is encouraging for the world we live in today.

My Review: Oh my. I didn’t know what this book was about until I started reading. Then my heart swelled with joy and love, and tears ran down my face the more I read. For me, this story is a reaffirmation of my Christian beliefs and reading it this close to Easter is marvelous. The story is short, but packed with meaning in abundance. Five shiny gold stars. Well done, Wanda.

KINDLED ROOTS #poetry

From Amazon: Many trees in this antique world like orphans but their earth and roots are very strong.
Some trees, are subjected to inhuman torture, by wild animal/people, all of them good but fate not supported. The stems were half-burnt in the fire but they are still alive in the kindle roots. A collage of fun, agony, love, quirkiness and emotions that bonds together in one dreamland.

A RUINED HEART

On the ruined mind wall
Some orchids
Some wilted leaves
Some incomplete bird nests
And cobwebs
The poor frescoes gasp softly
abused of hues of dreams,
willing not to dress up,
makeup
as before.
Once has written
a neighbor
with charcoal onto it,
her faded history.

XXXXXXIX

Alighting, a whore moon,
to my hazel yellow garden,

Her ember eyes sparkle
as a wounded tigress,

downpouring
pale sharp meteors
as children

acidic rain
comes down in force
to absorb
salty sweats
of blue earth.

My Review: This book is full of beautiful poems written in a rhymic manner of awe and wonder. Five stars. Note: Roman Numeraling is off but doesn’t detract from each poem.

Tart: A Small-Town Bakery Series #romance

From Amazon: My name is Bishop Halla, and I believe in love at first sight. The problem is, the woman I’m in love with doesn’t. Amber Larson. The face of The Fluffy Cupcake. She’s the sweetest tart in the bakery case, and I want nothing more than to take a bite. The other problem is, I can see through the smile she uses to hide her excruciating pain and halting limp. She needs help, fast, and I’m just the man for the job. What’s my plan? It’s simple. I’ll propose. For her, it’s a marriage of convenience. For me, it’s the real deal. I have thirty days to teach this beautifully broken woman that her past doesn’t have to dictate her future. I’ll start by showing my little tart that the right man will fill her nights with pleasure rather than pain. Her tight, lithe body and plump, kissable lips assure me it will be the most titillating lesson I’ve ever taught. Is it possible?I don’t know, but I have to try because If I fail, it will spell disaster for The Fluffy Cupcake, the entire town of Lake Pendle, and most of all, my heart.

My Review: This is the second book in this series that I’ve read by Mettner. Katie has nailed it yet again! The novel is full of angst, love, feeling inadequate, disability, but totally human. God, love, and kindness abounds within a lovely matrix of a bake and coffee shop with goodies galore. Book is also fine to read as a standalone story. I also love that by Katie, as her books are divine and yes, she is my favorite contemporary romance writer. Five shiny stars.

Gone in an Instant! #memoir

Please welcome Tammy Horvath to my blog. Good morning, Tammy. Shall we sit down with our morning brew and chat?

1. Please introduce yourself to those reading this blog post.

Hi, I’m Tammy Horvath. In 2017 my son was murdered and in the days and months that followed, I had to face the horror of losing my son and forgiving his killer. So I’ve written a memoir. Gone in an Instant is that story and I believe it will give hope to anyone who needs to forgive that person in their life who’s impossible to forgive.

2. Has writing always been part of your life and when did you “know” that it was time to start writing your first book?

The year after my son, Luke, went home to be with the Lord, I sensed God calling me to tell the world my story. I had never thought of myself as a writer, but God had a different plan. Gone in an Instant: Losing My Son, Loving His Killer doesn’t just chronicle the agonizing events of my son’s death but follows my own journey to faith, forgiveness, love, and renewed hope. Ultimately, it’s about how I learned to live each day to honor my son’s memory and to serve God with the assurance that he will use my son’s death for good, because that is what our heavenly Father does.

3. How difficult was it to write your first book?

It was very difficult. Writing this book meant reliving all the trauma. Then I had to relive it, again and again, each time I edited the manuscript.

4. Have you ever wanted to give up and what stopped you?

Going through all my videos pushed me close to giving up on life. But I knew God had called me to do this and that this was for his glory. God has given me the message to tell each and every person I come across that he loves them. I can only pray my story will touch many lives and help others who have been in similar situations. (I can understand this pain all too well. I wish I had videos to watch of my children in heaven.)

5. Who is the most supportive of you and your dream to be a writer?

Definitely my husband. He cooks and makes me tea while I sit at my computer writing, sometimes for twelve hours each day. He knows I am doing the work God put me here to do, serving my purpose, and he loves me for it.

6. Anything specific you want to tell your readers?

I write and speak so that every reader may know God’s immeasurable love and that forgiveness is the essence of God’s love. I can’t wait for the day I meet God face-to-face and am reunited with my son and other loved ones in heaven.

7. What is the best advice given to you (book or otherwise), and by whom?

As the well-known theologian, pastor, and Christian author Charles Stanley once said:

“Every person is born with a deep desire to be loved unconditionally, but when this yearning is not fully met, many hurts and scars can result. What security and wholeness there is in knowing that we can call God “our Father” and receive that unconditional love!”

I live by Pastor Stanley’s words and that’s why I’m committed to loving the unlovable and forgiving as I have been forgiven.

8. What is your target audience?

In my deeply moving and ultimately triumphant Christian book about child loss, I share the story of how God revealed Himself in astounding ways and set me free in a manner I could never have imagined. I share how I got through the pain and grief of losing my only child to murder. So can anyone who is suffering.

Gone in an Instant can do the same for you, if

  • There’s a person you just can’t figure out how to forgive.
  • You forgive but slip back into unforgiveness.
  • You want to be free, once and for all, of all the things you haven’t forgiven yourself for.
  • You’ve lost a loved one and don’t want to continue living.
  • You feel like you are all alone and no one cares about you.
  • You want help, but you don’t know where to turn.

9. Did the cover evolve the same way, or did you work with someone to make it come together for you?

I originally designed the cover myself. It was a beautiful view of the northern lights like I saw in Iceland, where I found comfort and peace shortly after losing my son. After several writing classes, which taught me that my cover needed to have my picture on it. It was then that I hired a professional graphic designer to make my new cover. On it, my smiling face reflects the peace in my heart.

10. What are you working on now? Can we get a peek, an excerpt?

I am currently sharing my story by speaking while trying to show everyone that God loves them. But who knows what God has in store for me?

11. Any last words before we wrap things up?

My heart breaks for anyone who has experienced the pain I’ve felt. But, there is hope. Come alongside me and learn from me. You are loved, and you have a purpose.

You can reach me at tammy@tammyhorvath.com or any of my other social media links. May God bless everyone who reads this.

Tammy’s Bio:

Whether climbing pyramids in Mexico, scaling glaciers in Iceland, or island hopping in the Caribbean, Tammy Horvath lives life to the full. She loves getting immersed in a good book (reading it on the beach), playing pool, or singing karaoke—although she’s severely voice challenged to the point where her husband only lets her sing at home. She has a background in real estate and insurance, and for over ten years, she’s volunteered with a Christian nonprofit that serves children at risk around the world. Tammy lives in western Pennsylvania with her amazing husband Michael.

The Soul of Purpose: A Step-By-Step Approach to Create A Purpose-Driven, Healthy Life

From Amazon: The Soul of Purpose shares previously unrevealed secrets about the definitive connections between spirituality, purpose, and health that will inspire and empower readers to create an individualized wellness blueprint to facilitate a healthy, purpose-filled life. IThe Soul of Purpose, author Jaya Jaya Myra shares powerful secrets revealing how and why purpose is foundational to both spirituality and health. The book outlines The WELL Method approach she created for changing mindset and daily habits—and teaches readers how to create a custom purpose and wellness blueprint based on each person’s unique talents and elemental composition. Myra includes her personal story of healing naturally from fibromyalgia, anxiety, and depression to show readers what a healing process really looks like in day-to-day life, and how it is connected to purpose. In a step-by-step guide, Jaya Jaya Myra shows readers how to implement each strategy effectively, overcome obstacles associated with real personal growth and self-healing, and how to build the necessary synergy and momentum to create a fulfilled, purpose-driven, healthy life.

My Review: I knew this book was going to be good, but I didn’t know how good. One’s mindset can change in a positive manner and the energy created/changed has impacts on the physical body. I love the way God is in this novel and the brilliant way the author has brought it all together. Highly recommend this five star book.

A Fatal First Night (An Ella Shane Mystery Book 2) #murder #mystery

From Amazon: It’s easy to be overlooked in Gilded Age Manhattan, but the Ella Shane Opera Company’s latest premier manages to attract adoring crowds, rave reviews, and a killer who’s a real showstopper!
New York City, Fall 1899. Ahead-of-her-time coloratura mezzo Ella Shane has always known opening night to be a mess of missed cues and jittery nerves, especially when unveiling a new opera. Her production of The Princes in the Tower, based on the mysterious disappearance of Edward IV’s two sons during the Wars of the Roses in England, concludes its first performance to thunderous applause. It’s not until players take their bows that the worst kind of disaster strikes . . .  Flawless basso Albert Reuter is found lurched over a bloody body in his dressing room, seemingly taking inspiration from his role as the murderous Richard III. With a disturbing homicide case stealing the spotlight, Ella can’t be so certain Albert is the one who belongs behind bars . . . Now, Ella must think on her feet while sorting out a wild series of puzzling mishaps and interlocking mysteries. Yet even when sided with her aristocratic beau, does this scrappy diva have the chops to upstage the true criminal, or will this be the last time she headlines a Broadway marquee?

My Review: Kalb has written the perfect follow up book, the second, in her Ella Shane mysteries. Set at the turn of the century in New York City, the gilded age for operas and clothing, actors and artists of all kinds, and a continuing story of love leaves one wanting to live that life and time themselves. Until, murder, 14 whacks to the neck of one male opera singer on opening night. The novel is carefully woven and I do think that one could read this book as a standalone book as enough back story is included. Five shiny gold stars!
